Itzel is a PhD student in Biotechnology at the Tecnologico de Monterrey.
Her interests and research focuses on the circular economy, climate change, carbon capture, bioremediation of wastewater and emerging contaminants, and the use of microalgae for environmental applications. She has co-authored several scientific articles in reputable, high-impact peer-reviewed journals. With eighteen published articles, she has garnered over 800 citations, achieving an h-index of 10.
In 2022, Itzel was part of the Green Talents program, an award granted by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany, which recognizes young scientists worldwide who are conducting impactful research aligned with sustainable development goals. Itzel believes that the economic and social development of communities is crucial for the future of countries, particularly in the Latin American context.
