Kirchner Food Fellowship – Mexico
Iris is a Plant Biotechnology PhD candidate at CINVESTAV Irapuato (Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute) in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico where she also studied the master’s program. Her academic interests are the use of natural compounds to fight against pest and diseases in crops.
Iris has received awards for her academic activities such as the “2018 Youth Award” in the Science and Technology category for the use of natural compounds to increase the disease resistance in bean plants. With this idea, Iris and her colleagues have established a company in which, the mission is to bring natural solutions to crops and translate the scientific knowledge into agricultural applications.
